WEDDING WEDNESDAY : BREATH-TAKING AUTUMNAL WEDDING FLOWERS BY THE GARDEN GATE FLOWER COMPANY

Posted by Dinh Nghia Tran on

In this week’s Wedding Wednesday blog post, I’m thrilled to share with you breath-taking wedding flower designs created by The Garden Gate Flower Company for Luke and Ana’s autumn wedding in Cornwall.

Thank you so much to photographer Ross Talling for these stunning images of the day. And here are a few words from florists Becca and Maz about the wedding…

“Autumn is the best time of year for flowers in our part of the country. Also, Strictly is back on the television. The year has turned a corner. The mellow dying days of summer give way to crisp cold mornings, ethereal mists and if you’re lucky, balmy afternoons where the sun uses the last of its strength to keep the chill of winter at bay.

In autumn, the foliage is almost better than the flowers. Beech leaves seem to have stored up all the summer’s sunshine, only to let it loose in hues of ochre and warm tawny browns across swathes of woodlands, their leaves skitting across the still waters of autumn with such joy that the melancholy of winter still seems so far away.

The most beautiful trees this autumn were field maple. Their dainty, airy posture and tonal gold-greens were made for our roses and dahlias, scabiosa and wild carrot. Everything at this time of year complements. Colours and textures balance one and another, an abundance of fruits, deep black-blue blooms on sloes, thorn branches weighed down with fruit, rosy crab apples, russet-skinned pears give such an air of profusion, whilst the roses seem to be cramming in as many flowers as they can before the frosts. Low shards of sunlight seems to brush the earth with warm gold radiance.

Ross Talling perfectly captures the atmosphere of autumn so well here. Treasured memories which capture with grace, the intangible feelings which flood a wedding day with such heart-felt emotions. It was a joy just to be there.”

“Luke and Ana got married at Nancarrow Farm, staying in the barns, protected by towering sycamore and ancient oak, wished well by the farm’s herd of organic cattle. Their sad heavy lashes blinking their watery brown eyes, warm, tufty red fur glowing halo-gold in the autumn sunshine.

Nancarrow produces organic beef and lamb. Autumn is possibly the absolute best time of year to eat here. Cooked on an open grill by Ben Quinn and his team with the smell of wood-smoke in the air, its grey fingers dancing up amongst the branches. The warmth of the fire and hot food on a chilly evening is something to be relished. The first opportunity to pull out warm winter sweaters and light candles for dinner. Everything tastes better in autumn.

Luke and Ana got married on a perfect day in October, a last hurrah to the season and a fan-fare end to a year of peachy roses, rosette dahlias and quaking grasses. A still point in time to join in with the dancing, to heel-turn, ball-change and say adieu to our flowers for 2015 and look forward to spring with a flourish.”
